New Product Development

In our latest crate engine tech video, Steve Magnante sits down with BluePrint Engines’ Director of Product Development, Chris Larson, Sales Manager, Pete Stout, and Product Manager, Johnny McDevitt, to talk about how the company decides which crate engines and components to design and ultimately produce.

With so many V8 engine options out there, it can be hard to choose which ones we want to manufacturer and add to our catalog. We continually discuss new engine configurations, displacements and horsepower targets that will meet the needs of our customers for their project vehicle. Whether you are looking to get your home-restored classic back on the road or building a pro-touring car with performance in mind, BluePrint offers a gamut of crate engines for Chevy, Ford and Mopar vehicles ranging from small blocks and big blocks to fuel-injected LS and stroker engines.

We pay close attention to the external feedback that we receive from the general car enthusiast market and from our own valued customers. We also receive lots of internal feedback from our own employees who are hot rodders and genuine car people, just like yourself! There is no shortage of ideas when it comes to crate engines but there are many aspects we must consider before developing a new product. Some questions we start by asking include:

  • Why should we build this?
  • Is this something that our customers want?
  • Is this a low or high-volume product?
  • Will it meet our standard of quality?
  • How much of this can we design and manufacture ourselves?

The list goes on! To learn more about BluePrint Engines new product development and some behind-the-scenes information, check out the latest crate engine tech video below:
